The Hunslet Engine Company of Leeds entered the narrow gauge market as early as 1870, supplying many side and saddle tank locomotives to ironstone and slate quarries particularly in Wales.

 The model represents a typical Hunslet of the period with feedwater side tanks, and enclosed cab. The rear cab panel is removable to provide access to the cab when driving.
