Principal features of a typical
railway locomotive kit.

The chassis is made from steel profiles on all the larger engines, laser or water jet cut.
Some designs have a one piece cast aluminium chassis including footplate saddle etc.

Cylinders are made from cast gun metal or cast iron depending on the model.
They are fully machined using CNC or conventional machinery depending on the size and complexity of the cylinder set.
Axles are run in bronze bearings, either on equalized or sprung axleboxes. Ball race bearings are used on larger electric locomotives and passenger carrying rolling stock.

Boilers are all copper, fully silver soldered or tig welded depending on size.
Conventional locomotive type boilers are used on most designs while vertical and gas fired versions are also made for some particular applications. All boilers come with hydraulic boiler test certificates, valid for four years. We can do retests when required.
